Valkey Meetup Charter

1. Introduction and Purpose

Valkey Meetup Groups are community-driven meetups and recurring gatherings dedicated to growing awareness, sharing knowledge, and strengthening the open source ecosystem around Valkey. These groups bring together developers, operators, contributors, and advocates to discuss real-world use cases, share best practices, and build lasting local community presence.

2. Guidelines

2.1 Frequency

Each Meetup Group is encouraged to hold a meetup at least once every 6 months. Groups that hold fewer than one meetup per year will lose their status as a recognized Valkey Meetup Group.

2.2 Topics

The overarching focus of all meetups should be Valkey and related open source technologies. Topics may include but are not limited to:

• Technical deep dives into Valkey features
• Real-world use cases and migration stories
• Operational challenges and solutions
• Ecosystem integrations and partner technologies
• Contributing to Valkey and open source governance

2.3 Goals & Intent

Presentations, talks, and discussions should center on technology, community, and mutual growth. Meetups are not intended to serve as sales or marketing channels. While making professional contacts is a natural benefit of participating, the primary goal is for everyone to engage with the intent of sharing knowledge and cultivating a sense of community.

2.4 Target Audience & Cost

Valkey User Groups welcome anyone with an interest in Valkey and the broader open source ecosystem. All Valkey meetups must be free to attend. No individual or organization may charge admission, sell tickets, nor request donations for entry under any circumstances.

2.5 Meetup Structure

Meetings can vary, but most will include a combination of presentations, demos, discussions, Q&A, and networking. Organizers are free to structure events based on local community needs. Meetings typically range from 1 to 3 hours, depending on the needs of the local community and how each organizer plans out the event.

2.6 Branding & Messaging

• Use Valkey first language (not product-led)
• Emphasize open source, governance, and community
• Slides should include Valkey branding — refer to the Valkey Brand Guidelines for logos, colors, and usage
• Avoid positioning Valkey as a single-vendor project

For the most up-to-date listing of Meetup Groups, please visit the Valkey Meetup Groups page (will be updated with the LF tool). If you don’t see your city listed and are interested in leading a new one, open a New Meetup Group Request issue to begin the conversation.

1. Open a New Meetup Group Request issue on GitHub
2. Join Valkey Slack and share your issue in the #meetup-groups channel
3. The Valkey team will review your request and follow up!

5. Code of Conduct
